BIFS presents “The Library Suicides”

Luxembourg. On Sunday, September 25, the BIFS presented the screening of the intriguing 2016 Welsh-language thriller “The Library Suicides” – Y Llyfrgell in Welsh, directed by the awarded Euros Lyn and starring Catrin Stewart, better known for playing the role of Jenny Flint in Doctor Who.

In the exciting atmosphere of the BIFS, Euros Lyn – in video call from Wales – offered an introduction just before the beginning of the movie. The director peaked the audience’s interest with a few amusing anecdotes concerning the making of the film and the shooting at the National Library of Wales. It was interesting to discover how the story, adapted from the bestselling novel by Fflur Dafydd, became a movie.

We see Catrin Stewart in a great dual role while playing the twin sisters Ana and Nan, seeking to avenge their mother’s death. The characters in the movie are somehow peculiar and unique, while presenting a vague noir crime touch.

The manner in which the plot unfolds, almost entirely in the mysterious and fascinating location of the National Library, is extremely engaging throughout the movie.

The finale does not disappoint either, in fact the ending has a twist which harmoniously blends with the rest of the story. Nothing spectacular, but unexpected and well composed.

An interesting small psychological thriller, as it is not often seen, that is able to keep the viewer captivated until the closing credits!
